Description:
Our client seeks an accomplished manager to lead an engineering department consisting of approximately 50 people dedicated to the design and application engineering of products utilized in the construction industry. This person must be a leader who is highly capable in developing management level talent while driving state of the art innovation and automation through engineering processes.
The Vice President of Engineering plans and directs enterprise wide engineering activities of multiple design departments to include budgeting, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers. Drives automation throughout engineering processes from concept, to design, to drawing to release to manufacturing, obtaining efficiencies to drive maximum return and customer satisfaction. He/she may directly or through others perform complex analytical work in providing office engineering and field engineering support for multiple product lines ensuring technical competence and product design compliance.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plans and implements engineering programs, including defining engineering philosophy, activities, milestones, and staff requirements. Researches best in practice programs aligned with customer requirements.
- Sets strategic direction for Engineering automation that includes drafting, design and integration with pricing and estimating tools, CRM applications, and general workflow.
- Manages all Engineering partners, both domestic and abroad, augmenting company’s suite of services.
- Develops staff by sharing knowledge and expertise, creating an environment for learning and challenging work.
- Works with marketing department in researching and analyzing markets for determining most effective means of designing and engineering products.
- Analyzes engineering processes for areas of improvement from design through manufacturing which may include supplier analysis and coordination with supply chain and manufacturing departments.
- Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for engineering departments.
- Manages multiple engineering and design teams through management team.
- Evaluates, analyzes, and makes recommendations on new and existing products regarding designs, and cost improvements to improve the competitive position of the company.
- Researches and evaluates new design codes, methods and tools, and new pieces of commercially available software. Provides input in the design process improvement area.
- Interfaces with various departments to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met.
- Participates in annual Strategic Planning process at a leadership role. Provides input to short term (6 mos – 2 years) and long term (3 – 5 years) planning.
- Ensures product lines meet standards with national specifying agencies such by working with engineering management team and regulatory agencies.
Basic Qualifications:
- Master's degree (M. S.) Civil Engineering preferred. Bachelor’s Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering required
- Current Professional Engineering license preferred.
- 15+ years design engineering of manufactured construction products industry experience preferred. Design Build firm experience a plus.
- 10+ years leading management and engineering teams with proven ability of motivating to meet customer needs required. Researching, developing and implementing engineering performance metrics very helpful.
- Experience managing consulting relationships both US and abroad.
- Experience working with governmental regulatory agencies, consulting firms and universities required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate while making technical presentations.
- Experience with Engineering Design and Project Management software.
- Medium to Long range business planning (2-5 years) required.
- Proven record using creativity and innovation in new product development
