Our client, a dynamic and growing industrial manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Planner/Buyer with expertise in planning and purchasing materials to control production and inventory cost.  The Planner/Buyer will have an initial focus on purchasing/ buying (procuring global and domestic materials, equipment and services); however, duties will also include production scheduling and inventory control activities.  This position will report to the Supply Chain Manager and will help direct work flow and arrange transportation for the shipment of products.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures contracts with suppliers and vendors are consistent with company objectives.
  • Participates in major contract negotiations with suppliers to secure consistent supplies and competitive prices.
  • Sound understanding of business law and legal contracts.
  • Controls, measures, and regulates efficient inventory levels of materials, commodities and purchased items.
  • Monitor and maintain Kanban system, establishes vendor managed and consignment inventories for assigned areas.
  • Responsible for purchasing quality product, meeting on-time delivery of material, annual cost reductions, achieving inventory turn goals, supplier OTD goals, supplier development, and meeting material ISO management responsibilities.
  • Evaluate supply and demand necessary to determine ordering needs.
  • Generate, place and expedite orders to facilitate production requirements
  • Provide accurate and timely delivery dates for component materials.
  • Monitor supplier delivery performance, inventory levels, supplier quality follow up, and component cost reduction.
  • Purchase materials in a timely and cost effectively manner

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree and 5+ years of experience in domestic and international materials procurement
  • Detailed experience buying, planning, forecasting, and inventory control
  • Demonstrated planning, analysis and negotiating skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with domestic and international suppliers, customers and all levels of the organization.
  • Appropriate language, writing, analytical and computer skills (MS Excel a must, Oracle a plus).
  • Ability to analyze data that is ultimately used to support company decisions
  • Able to figure least cost scenarios, inventory costing, and MRP planning as well as the ability to understand blueprints and communicate with Engineering and suppliers
  • Make sound decisions on price, quantity issues, inventory, and product cost
  • Able to learn ISO work instructions
  • High energy level, strong initiative, team attitude, and ability to work without supervision is essential
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing
  • APICS certification a huge plus
