Our client is a worldwide supplier of specialty chemicals and nutritional ingredients.  The North American headquarters is in Cincinnati, Ohio, with close to ten other production facilities throughout the Untied States.  Our client is in search of a Business Unit Controller.  The incumbent for this position will be responsible for providing financial support of the business unit.  The individual will ensure that the financial and management reporting is in compliance with general accepted accounting standards and all internal reporting requirements.  This includes the adherence to SAP – application rules and regulations, an effective system of internal controls and continuous process optimization.

The Controller partners with the Business Unit Manager to maximize profitability improvement efforts.

The Controller reports to the CFO directly with a dotted line to the Business Unit Manager.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the month-end closing process and preparation of monthly reporting packages.
• Provide detailed analysis and explanations of variances against previous year and plan.
• Enforce data integrity goals through timely/accurate booking of transactional data for an accurate standard costing system.
• Investigate standard cost variances during the month.
• Manage cost reduction programs and expense overruns to plan.
• Coordinates and finalizes the annual planning process.

Education and Experience Preferred

• Degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA or MBA certification preferred.
• Minimum 5 years experience in financial analysis, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong skills in the use of Microsoft products, especially Excel.  SAP experiences a plus.
• Broad understanding of accounting routines and financial tools.

Must have verifiable past experience in a finance role that required a proactive approach to using financial analyses results to advise business unit managers with concrete, realistic suggestions for improving the viability and bottom line profitability and efficiency of operations.
